Apply to WITS University for 2026: Dates, Fees & How to Apply

University of the Witwatersrand, a leading South African technology university, is now accepting applications for its 2026 academic intake from all eligible individuals and qualified students.

The WITS online application portal is now open for qualified learners seeking high-quality education to apply for the academic year 2026. Applicants must complete the application form and upload or submit all required documents before the portal closes.

When to Apply for WITS 2026 Intake

The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) will accept applications for the 2026 academic intake from March 1 to September 30, 2025. All application documents, along with proof of payment for the application fee, must be submitted by the close of September 30, 2025.

The university is accepting online applications. Before starting the process, ascertain you meet the entry requirements for your programme of interest. You need to possess the following documents and information

Prospective students must pay a non-refundable application fee based on their citizenship status:

How to Pay the WITS Application Fee Online

To pay the WITS application fee online, follow the steps below

Go to https://self-service.wits.ac.za
Log in to the Student Portal with your Student Number and birthdate (YYMMDD) as your password
Ensure that you are on the Applicant Homepage, then go to Campus Finances
Then click on make payment, select “Application Fee” as the payment selector, thereafter, click
on proceed with payment
Under Step 1, select “Card-3D Secure” as the Pay By option then click on confirm
Under Step 2, specify the payment amount, then click confirm
Under Step 3, click on confirm
Under Step 4, populate card details, click continue, then click on confirm
Under Step 5, process the payment by clicking submit.
Under Step 6, as the payment result, ensure that you get a confirmation that payment was
successfully made.

How to Apply to WITS For 2026

If you wish to apply for WITS 2026 admissions, please take note of the following:

You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter).
Ensure you meet the admission requirements for your degree of choice
Apply before the closing date.
Apply using your names as they appear on your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames).
Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
All first time applications must be submitted online at www.wits.ac.za/applications

Step-by-step WITS Application Guide

Follow the guide below to complete and submit your WITS 2026 application form as you have until 30^th September 2025 to do so.

Visit wits.ac.za.
Locate the “STUDY@WITS” area and choose it.
Select the online application option.
To register, enter your ID and password.
To access the portal, enter your ID.
Go over the terms and conditions and accept them.
Type in your qualification or select it from the drop-down option.
Once your course has been chosen, click “Save and Continue.”
Complete all of the form’s required fields.
Once again, accept the rules.
Complete and submit your application.
As needed, provide all applicable documentation.
Upload the evidence of payment and submit the charge.
An email verifying receipt of your application will be sent by WITS.
Verify the status of your application.

Uploading Outstanding Documents

All required documents must be uploaded via the student self-service portal @ www.self-service.wits.ac.za

Student ID is your personal/student number; Password is your birthdate in the format ‘YYMMDD.
- Student ID: Student Number/ Person Number
- Password: If DOB is 1994/09/28 you enter 940928
Click on Documents & Communications tile to upload documents.
Click on ‘Manage Documents’ to upload ALL items that reflect as Pending
Remember to save your documents in PDF and name them correctly as you can only upload them once against a particular category.
The uploaded documents would reflect as ‘Not verified ‘on your profile until they have been verified by the Admissions Office, they will then reflect as “Electronic”.

How to check your WITS online application status

To check your WITS online application status, visit the Admission Status tab on your internet-enabled device and enter your ID number or full name if you don’t have one.
