Applicants wanting to enroll in a study program at a public university or Tvet College for the academic year 2024-2025 may access the NSFAS application forms between 28 September 2023 and 31 January 2024. Applications for NSFAS that are submitted after January 31, 2024, shall be refused.

NSFAS Eligibility for 2024 Applications

Do you meet the requirements to apply for NSFAS funding? Before you ask for financial support from the NSFAS, make sure you satisfy all the application requirements. The good news is that you can apply or submit an application form to be sponsored in your higher study if you are a South African student earning less than R350,000 and have a phone number and email address. The minimum requirements for applying to NSFAS for the academic year 2024 are listed below;

Be a citizen of South Africa
Have a permanent resident in South Africa
Must have a Gross Income of not more than R350,000 per year
Be a SASSA grant recipient
Be a student with a valid email and cell number
Be Fully accepted into a university or college in South Africa
Be offered a provisional acceptance letter to study at the university or Tvet College
Be Studying or about to study an NSFAS-approved course
Being a person with a disability challenged
Be a Student who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum

2024 NSFAS Application Documents Needed

All applicants for NSFAS must make sure to send the following documentation to the NSFAS by the deadline using the NSFAS website, www.nsfas.org.za. (NSFAS Applications will close on 31 January 2024)

Copy of student ID/Birth certificate
Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
Smart card (Front and back)
Proof of income (where applicable)
Academic Transcript
Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
An applicant who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration form.

Institutions That Receive NSFAS funding

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), a South African organization, will only provide financial aid for 2024 students who have applied to or have been accepted at public universities and TVET colleges for a funded program pursuing undergraduate degrees. NSFAS will not assist students who intend to attend private institutions, are doing so presently, or are pursuing postgraduate degrees.
