Sol Plaatje University Applications Open for 2025! The administration of Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is pleased to announce that applications to study for the 2025-2026 academic year are now open. Prospective students can access the application form and submit all application materials starting from April 1, 2024. Please remember to submit your application within the designated application cycle.

Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Application Dates for 2025-2026

The online application form, which includes a PDF version, will be open on MONDAY, April 01, 2024. All undergraduate and postgraduate courses will close on November 30, 2024, while international applications will end on December 31, 2024. More information on the application courses and their respective dates can be found here. You are strongly advised to meet the deadlines or risk being denied admission for 2025-2026.

SPU DETAILED CLOSING DATES FOR 2025

You must submit your applications as indicated below.

On November 30, 2024, all undergraduate programs will be closed.
Postgraduate Programs will close on November 30, 2024.
By December 31, 2024, foreign applicants must submit their applications.
The closing date for applications for residence is December 31, 2024.

Sol Plaatje University SPU only accepts applications online. It is a free service that does not require payment. You are not to pay the application fee to anyone claiming to be working on behalf of Sol Plaatje University SPU. There is NO application fee at Sol Plaatje University SPU.

Yu will need the following documents to apply to Sol Plaatje University SPU

Currently in Grade 12

A certified copy of your ID
Final Grade 11 results

Completed your Grade 12/matric

An affidavit declaring that you have studied at another higher education institution (university or college). If you never enrolled at a university or college since completing high school, this must be declared in the affidavit.
A certified copy of your ID
Your final Grade 12 results

Transfer applicants:

An official academic transcript and a certificate of conduct from your previous college/university
A certified copy of your ID
Final Grade 12 results

SPU Online Application process for 2025-2026

When applying to Sol Plaatje University (SPU), just visit the website: www.spu.ac.za and follow these steps:

Select Apply, Register, Change Personal Information and get Academic and Other Information from the drop-down menu.

Step 1: Personal Information

On the screen below, read Steps 1 and 2. SAVE your biographical information when you’ve completed it.

Step 2: Register your Profile

Make a pin for your academic application.
Once your biographical data has been saved, the system will generate a reference number that will become your student number.
For a successful login, an applicant will receive the message below

Step 3: Accept the rules and regulations

Select Application and then View Application Rules from the drop-down menu.
Before clicking the [I Accept] button, read the Academic Applications regulations.

Step 4: Educational History

Select Schools Attended from the drop-down menu, then select a value from the drop-down menu to find your Senior Secondary School.
Select the appropriate school by clicking on it. SAVE the beginning year and month, then the ending year and month. If you make a mistake, press the Delete key and then SAVE.
Select Enter School Leaving Subjects from the drop-down menu.
Please refer to the table of values after your School Leaving Subjects, Grades, and Symbols. SAVE after selecting the correct Subject. An example of how to look for a school-leaving subject is as follows:

Step 5: Upload your certificates starting from your latest

Select the Certificates Seen option. SAVE after clicking on ID and uploading a scanned document.

Step 6: Disability Database (Optional)

Click on Disabilities to disclose if applicable and SAVE.

Step 7: Choose your qualification and submit your application

Click on Submit Application. To find a qualification, capture either %Retail%, BA, BEd, or BSC then press SEARCH.
Fill in the blanks after you’ve chosen your qualification: Academic Preference = 1 (Choice 1)
Continue by pressing SAVE. To apply for a different qualification, repeat the steps above. Academic Priority = 2 (Choice 2).

SPU Admission Requirements for 2025-2026

The number of slots available for a program heavily influences the selection. Meeting the admission requirement, on the other hand, is an important factor in the selection criteria. The most qualified applicants are chosen for the various programs. The requirements for degrees, diplomas, and certificates are listed below:

Undergraduate Requirements

The general requirement for admission to study for a degree qualification is a matriculation exemption certificate or a National Senior Certificate endorsed for degree admission.
The standard requirement for admission to study a diploma or certificate qualification is a school leaving certificate with a minimum aggregate symbol E-S, or National Senior Certificate endorsed for diploma/certificate admission.
All students will be required to satisfy any additional criteria prescribed by Senate and/or the Faculties concerned.

Postgraduate Requirements

To study for a postgraduate degree qualification, the general requirement for admission is possession of a preceding degree, (e.g. first degree for Honours studies, Honours degree or equivalent for Master’s studies, and Master’s degree for Doctoral studies).
The preceding degree must have been passed at an acceptable level
