UWC 2026 Application: All You Need to Know

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is now accepting applications for the 2026 academic year. This is an opportunity for prospective students to apply for a wide range of programs, including Arts and Humanities, Community and Health Sciences, Dentistry, Economic and Management Sciences, Education, Law, and Natural Sciences. The application process officially opens on Tuesday, April 13, 2025.

Luckily, the University of the Western Cape does not charge an application fee (UWC). No application fees are required.

Reapplying to UWC after rejection?

If you applied for a previous intake but were not accepted to the University of the Western Cape (UWC), you will need to submit a new application for the 2026 academic intake. Students can apply online for no more than 3 qualifications.

How to submit a manual application to the University of the Western Cape (UWC)?

The Western Cape University (UWC) accepts both online and paper applications. The university does not accept walk-ins application. Prospective students must submit all documents to the university either online or by mail. To apply, you will need your personal information, your next of kin’s address, the address of the person responsible for the account, your personal email addresses, and soft and hard copies of supporting documents.

Transfer Applicants

Certified copy of your NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
Certified copy of your Identification document
Certified Certificate of good conduct from your current/previous institution
Certified Official Academic Transcript
Module content / Yearbook descriptor from your institution for all modules completed
Certified Degree certificate (if applicable)

Post-Matric Learners

If you have written the NSC examination already, you need to submit the following:

Certified copy of your NSC certificate or Senior Certificate
Certified copy of your identification document
Proof of any studies with academic records, if applicable, you may have completed
If applicable, proof that you are currently improving your NSC results
In an affidavit a brief description of activities post-matric/NSC

Foreign students

You need to submit your final school results to Universities South Africa (USAf) for an evaluation
Application for Exemption is to be done with Universities South Africa (USAf) formerly Higher Education South Africa (HESA).
UWC unfortunately will not be able to respond to your application until you submit a confirmation letter issued by USAf stating that you qualify to study at a South African University.

UWC online application: Email required?

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) Online applications require an email address to send confirmations. If you do not have an email address go to www.gmail.com and register before you start the online application process. Cell phone number is compulsory to ensure students can be reached telephonically should it be required.

Submitting Supporting Documents Online

The University of the Western Cape’s (UWC) online application system will prompt you to upload documents once you completed the application. Please upload the relevant document to the relevant certificate codes. Follow the steps below to upload all the outstanding documents:

Go to www.uwc.ac.za
Login with your Application Number to upload the required application documents.
Only use your Student Number to log in if you are a current student and need to upload a copy of your ID document.

You will receive an email/SMS with details of the online application submission. Always check for junk e-mail folders for possible e-mail notifications. You can also track your application on the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Website.
