When will WSU online and paper applications for 2025-2026 open?

Walter Sisulu University will accept applications for all qualifications starting on April 1, 2024. The application deadline is the end of October 2025. Applications received after this date will only be considered if space is available.

When to Apply & What You Need for WSU Admission (2025-2026)

Application Deadlines:

  • The application deadline for Walter Sisulu University (WSU) for the 2025-2026 academic year is officailly out available. It is  the end of October of the preceding year. You can check the WSU website for the most up-to-date information: https://www.wsu.ac.za/.

Admission Requirements:

Online Application Requirements:

  • Personal details
  • Address of next of kin
  • Address of the person responsible for the account (if applicable)
  • Email addresses
  • Soft copies of supporting documents (listed below)

What You Don’t Need:

  • Hard copy of the application form: WSU only accepts online applications.
  • Application or Processing Fee: Applications are free of charge.
  • Hard copy of supporting documents: All documents must be uploaded electronically.

Supporting Documents:

Fresh Intakes:

  • Grade 12 certificate (or “Old Senior” certificate)
  • N6 credential (if applicable)
  • Grade 11 final results (and first quarter/mid-year results if available) for current Grade 12 students
  • Matric or equivalent certificate, academic record, and ID/passport copy (for post-matric applicants)

Transfer Intakes:

  • Matric certificate
  • Post-matric certificate (if applicable)
  • ID document
  • Official academic report
  • Conduct certificate

Foreign Intakes:

  • Certified copy of home country ID
  • Certified copy of passport
  • South African study visa
  • Medical report
  • English proficiency proof (IELTS: overall score 6, TOEFL: 80-104 average) for undergraduate programs
  • Sworn English translations (for non-English documents)

Additional Notes:

  • WSU accepts online applications only.
  • Application fees are waived for all applicants.
  • Be sure to have all required documents scanned and ready to upload before starting the application process.

Entry Requirements

Some programmes require students to submit additional information as part of their application. Applications without the additional requirements will not be considered

Admission requirements for all WSU programs are included in the Prospectus booklet and pamphlets, as well as general admission information, qualification structures, and information on where each program is offered. Prospective students should check the subject and grade requirements of the program they want to study before applying.

WSU Application Process for 2025-2026

To apply to Walter Sisulu University, follow the steps outlined below.

Step One:

  • Complete all the information that is requested. All fields with a red asterisk are compulsory. This means you cannot proceed if left blank or incorrect information is supplied.

Step Two:

  • It is compulsory to have an email address. You may create one on Gmail or Yahoo.

Step Three:

  • All the communication that will follow after you have successfully completed your application will be sent to the email address you have provided.

Step Four:       

  • You will be advised if additional information is required to assist during the assessment process.

Step Five:

  • You will also be asked to apply for residence and financial assistance. Email addresses will be sent to you with directives regarding the application process.
