Who is Qualified for NSFAS 2024
NSFAS offers thousands of students financial aid each year, allowing them to pursue their academic goals at 26 universities and 50 TVET institutes throughout South Africa. Understanding the NSFAS funding eligibility requirements as we approach 2024 can help you determine whether you are eligible to apply or not, as well as if there have been any changes to the NSFAS requirements. Who Qualifies For NSFAS 2024 Funding
Below are the eligibility criteria for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) for the academic year 2024-2025
Be a citizen of South Africa
NSFAS financial support is meant to help only students from South Africa who complete Grade 12 or metrics in South Africa. Any student with SA ID but with international qualification is not eligible to apply for NSFAS financial support
Have a permanent resident in South Africa
If you have a permanent resident in South Africa at the time of the application, then you qualify for NSFAS financial aid for the academic year
Must have a Gross Income of not more than R350,000 per year
You are eligible if your entire household income for the year is equal to or less than R350,000. The prospective applicant’s Gross amount be it salary or revenue from trade should not exceed the capped amount of R350,000. You must provide proof of income to affirm your gross income from sales or salary

Be a SASSA grant recipient
Prospective applicants receiving any South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants will immediately qualify for NSFAS
Be a student with a valid email and cell number
Prospective applicants applying for NSFAS financial support should have a personal email address, working cell/mobile phone, and phone number. You cannot apply for NSFAS if you do not have a Gmail or Yahoo account and a mobile number. You are hereby advised to create a Gmail or Yahoo account before you start APPLYING for NSFAS 2024. No two applicants may use the same cell phone number or email address. This information is needed to create a myNSFAS account which you will use to apply for funding
Be Fully accepted into a university or college in South Africa
You must be given an offer to study in an approved government or public university or Tvet college before you can apply for NSFAS financial support. Not all courses are funded by NSFAS, you are encouraged to visit the official website of NSFAS to check the full list of courses that receive NSFAS funding
Be offered a provisional acceptance letter to study at the university or Tvet College
New applicants must have a conditional or provisional offer letter to apply for NSFAS FINANCIAL AID. Applicant must be ready to accept the offer after a couple of weeks in order to qualify for NSFAS funding
Be Studying or about to study an NSFAS-approved course
As already explained, you need to be accepted into an approved and accredited NSFAS course and programmes before you can qualify for NSFAS financial support for the academic year 2024. NSFAS funding covers approved funded programmes at universities which are all undergraduate whole qualifications i.e. degree but not diploma not short courses
Being a person with a disability challenged
NSFAS provides special disability funding to all approved students with disabilities at any of the 26 public universities or 50 TVET colleges. The applicant’s household income must not exceed R600 000 per year.
Be a Student who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum

Additional Requirements For NSFAS Funding 2024
Academic Requirements
You need to have passed Grades 9 to 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college and Grade 12 to receive funding to study at a university or TVET college.
Vulnerable
An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Vulnerable Declaration form.
