CUT Selection Test Information for Prospective Students – January 2027

Are you planning to start your studies at the Central University of Technology (CUT) in January 2027? This guide provides everything you need to know about the CUT selection test, including registration, preparation, schedules, and what to expect on test day.

Who Should Write the CUT Selection Test?

The CUT selection test 2027 is only required for students specifically invited. If you haven’t received a notification, you do not need to write the test.

The selection test is administered by the CUT Wellness Centre and provides an alternative route to admission for students who do not meet the minimum faculty admission requirements.

Purpose of the CUT Selection Test

The CUT admissions test evaluates:

  • Aptitude – assessing reasoning, problem-solving, and logical thinking

  • English proficiency – reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills

  • Departmental requirements – some programs may require additional tests or interest questionnaires

The test helps faculties make informed admission decisions for prospective students.

Can I Prepare for the Test?

The CUT aptitude and proficiency test is designed to measure your existing skills, so there is no preparation required.

  • Duration: Approximately 3.5 hours

  • Provided items: Pencil and eraser

  • Prohibited items: Cell phones, calculators, or any electronic devices

What to Bring to the Testing Centre

Students must bring:

  1. Proof of CUT permission to write the selection test (official letter or online status message)

  2. Copy of Matric certificate / Grade 12 results

  3. Copy of FET qualifications (if applicable)

  4. Copy of ID document

How to Access Your Results

The Wellness Centre will process your results within a week and forward them to the relevant faculties. Final admission decisions will then be communicated to students.

Note: The CUT selection test is not the National Benchmark Test (NBT). Learn more about NBT here.
