What Does NSFAS Cover in 2026?

NSFAS funding provides comprehensive support for undergraduate students, covering key educational and living expenses, including:

Accommodation: Costs for university residences, TVET residences, or approved off-campus housing.
Tuition Fees: Paid directly to the institution, depending on program and university/college.
Meal Allowance: Monthly support for food expenses.
Study Materials: Funding for books and other required resources.
Transport Allowance: Support for commuting to campus.
Personal Care Allowance: Contribution toward essential personal expenses.

Who Can Apply for NSFAS Funding in 2026?

To qualify for funding, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a South African citizen.
Come from a household with a combined gross income of R350,000 or less per year (R600,000 for students with disabilities).
Have obtained at least a Grade 9 pass or equivalent qualification.
Be accepted to or intending to enroll at a public university or TVET college.
Be a first-time undergraduate student (no age restriction).
Have an active and valid email address and cellphone number.
