Applications for the 2026 academic year at the University of Pretoria will open on April 1, 2025, and close on June 30, 2025. However, some courses have earlier deadlines:

  • May 31, 2025: Faculty of Veterinary Sciences (all programs)
  • June 30, 2025: All other programs and residence applications

UP University 2026 Application Requirements

The application fee for the University of Pretoria for 2026 admissions depends on your citizenship:

  • South African citizens and Permanent Residents: R300 (non-refundable)
  • Foreign citizens: $30 (non-refundable)

Applying to UP University: When to Reapply

Whether you need to reapply to the University of Pretoria after previously being rejected depends on the situation:

  • If you are applying for the same program in the same academic year: You do not need to submit a new application. The University advises against doing so.
  • If you are applying for a different program or in a different academic year: You should submit a new application. This is because each program and year has its own selection process and competition, and your previous application is not automatically considered for future applications.

It’s important to note that even if you are applying for a different program, the University of Pretoria might still have your application information on file. However, they will still require you to submit a new application and go through the regular application process.

UP Application: Online Only

The University of Pretoria requires all applications to be submitted electronically through their application portal. Handwritten or walk-in applications are not accepted. To apply online, you’ll need your personal information, next of kin and account holder addresses, email addresses, and digital copies of supporting documents.

Applying for Multiple Qualifications at UP University

Students can apply online for up to 2 qualifications per year. University of Pretoria will only process the first 2 choices received.

Tip: If applying for 2 programs within the same Faculty, consider applying for a third option in a different Faculty (Humanities, Commerce, or Science) to diversify your application. This is especially recommended for restricted programs like Health Sciences or Engineering.

  • Certified Matric/School Leaving Certificates (Past Matric/International Applicants)
  • Certified Academic Records & Statement of Good Conduct (Tertiary Applicants)

UP Online Application: Email & Phone Needed

While you can apply online, the University of Pretoria requires an email address for confirmation and a phone number for potential contact. If you lack an email, consider creating a free Gmail account before starting your application.

UP Online Application: Uploading Supporting Documents

Once you’ve completed your online application at the University of Pretoria, the system will prompt you to upload required documents. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Uploading Link: www.up.ac.za/online-application
  2. Login with your Student ID (person/student number) and password (birthdate in YYMMDD format).
  3. Click Documents & Communications > Manage Documents.
  4. Upload ALL pending documents as PDFs with clear names.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Uploaded documents initially appear as “Not verified”. Once the Admissions Office verifies them, the status will change to “Electronic”.

You’ll receive confirmation of your online application submission by email or SMS. Check your junk mail folder in case the notification lands there. Additionally, you can track your application status on the University of Pretoria website.
