The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has confirmed that late applications for the 2026 academic year are still open, giving prospective students another opportunity to apply for programmes with available space.

Missed the 2026 university deadlines? Don’t panic. DUT still has limited spaces available in some popular courses. Find out in this article how you can apply before it’s too late.

Mode of Applications

All undergraduate applications at DUT are processed through the Central Applications Office (CAO). Direct applications are only accepted for postgraduate studies, such as Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral programmes.

Applicants are advised to visit www.cao.ac.za to complete their applications, as late applications are subject to space availability.

Closing Date

All Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2026 late applications are scheduled to close on 31 January 2026. If you are serious about furthering your studies in 2026, grab your smart device and head straight to the CAO application portal to complete your application before the deadline.

Late Application Fees

For 2026 late applications, applicants are required to pay an application fee through the CAO, based on their citizenship status, as outlined below:

  • R470 – South African citizens
  • R580 – International applicants

How to pay

Make sure the correct application fee is paid to avoid delays in processing your application. If you pay through EasyPay, remember to clearly indicate your CAO number on the payment slip. You can equally pay online.

Entry Requirements for DUT Undergraduate Qualifications

Higher Certificate Programmes

To be considered for a Higher Certificate, applicants must have:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC)
  • Minimum APS as required by the programme
  • At least 30%–40% in the language of instruction

Diploma Programmes

Applicants must have:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC)
  • A minimum APS determined by the specific diploma
  • Required subjects for the chosen course (e.g. Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy)
  • Minimum achievement levels in compulsory subjects

Bachelor’s Degree Programmes

Applicants must meet the following:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Bachelor’s pass
  • Minimum APS score as set by DUT
  • Required subjects and achievement levels for the selected programme

Documents Required for DUT 2026 Late Applications

Ensure that the following documents are submitted with your application:

  • Certified copy of South African ID or passport
  • Certified Grade 11 final results or latest Grade 12 results
  • Proof of application fee payment
  • Academic transcripts (if previously registered at another institution)
  • Study permit or medical cover (for international applicants)

Take Note: Incomplete applications may not be processed.

  1. Go to cao.ac.za and ensure your internet connection is strong.
  2. Find out which courses are still open and make sure you meet all academic requirements.
  3. Click the “Apply” button, choose your country, and enter your ID number to register.
  4. Complete your registration by creating a profile with your details.
  5. Input your full name, email address, cell phone number, and residential address.
  6. Provide names, addresses, and contact details of your next-of-kin.
  7. Choose Durban University of Technology (DUT) as one of your institutions.
  8. Pick up to three courses you want to apply for and ensure you meet their requirements.
  9. Upload certified copies of your application materials.
  10. Review your application carefully and submit it before the deadline
  11. Pay the correct late application fee
  12. Submit the proof of payment
  13. Track your application status via CAO.
