The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Announces Application Dates for the 2024-2025 Academic Year! The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) will be accepting online applications from prospective students for the 2024-2025 academic year. The application window will open on March 1, 2024, and close on September 30, 2024, for undergraduate programs and August 31, 2024, for postgraduate programs.

 

All applicants seeking admission to Wits for the 2025-2026 academic year are required to apply through the university’s online portal. Additionally, a separate application by post or in-person delivery, along with a non-refundable application fee (to be discussed later in this article), is mandatory.

Does WITS Charge an Application Fee for Admission?

An application fee is required when applying for admission to the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS). The application fee is non-refundable, regardless of the admission decision. Applications without a payment proof (a photocopy of the receipt, not the original) are considered invalid.

How Much Is WITS Application Fee 2025-2026

A non-refundable application fee of R100 is required for South African citizens applying to WITS for the 2025-2026 academic year. Foreign citizens are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of R700.

Wits University Application Fee Payment Options (2025-2026)

The university accepts the following forms of payments:

  • Cash or credit card: In person at the Wits Cashiers Office, Ground Floor, Solomon Mahlangu House, Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, Campus East. Use your student number as the reference.

The University of the Witwatersrand Application Process

Apply by following the steps below:

Step 1: Choose your Programme

  • You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter
  • If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
  • Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
  • Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.

Step 2: Upload Supporting Documents

  • If you did not upload supporting documents or pay your application fee at the time of application, you can still do so via the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za
  • Log in with your personal number (NOT your T number) and the first six digits of your ID.

Step 3: Pay your Application Fee

  • A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required and can be paid via the self-service portal.

Step 4: Submit your applications

  • Apply using your names as they reflect in your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames)
  • Ensure that you submit the application and receive a letter acknowledging that your application has been submitted.
