How to Start a New NWU Application for 2026

The North-West University is now accepting applications for the 2026 academic year, with the application form available for both new and returning applicants. Those interested in studying at NWU can either begin a fresh application or resume an existing one if it remains open. Before starting the application process, applicants are strongly advised to ensure they meet the program’s specific entry requirements.

The online application portal for the 2026 academic year opens on April 1, 2025, and remains available until August 31, 2025. However, the exact closing date varies depending on the course applicants wish to pursue. It is important to submit applications and supporting documents before the respective deadline to ensure consideration for admission.

Number of NWU Applications Required

The North-West University’s online application system permits only one submission per applicant. While you can make changes and work on your application until the deadline, no further edits will be allowed once the submission period ends. All applicants, including new and reapplying students, must submit a fresh application for the 2026 academic year.

Upon successful completion of your application before the deadline, you will receive an email containing your allocated student number (EMPLID) and further instructions. This email will detail how to access the student portal to track your application progress and view results.

When to Apply

All programs at the North-West University are now accepting applications for the 2026 academic year. The deadline for applications to the Selection Courses is June 30, 2025, while the deadline for all other undergraduate and postgraduate programs is August 31, 2025. To ensure your application is considered, it is essential to submit both your application and required supporting documents before the specified deadlines.

What You’ll Need

Before you start a new NWU Application, ensure you have the following documents

Your year-end Grade 11 marks, or
If you have already completed Grade 12, your final Grade 12 results.
You will later need to scan the school’s results so that it is available to be uploaded.
A certified academic record and a certificate of conduct will need to be scanned and uploaded.

How To Start A New NWU Application 2026

If you want to start a new application at the North-West University for the academic year 2026, follow the steps below.

Go to www.nwu.ac.za to begin your application.
Click Apply Online.
Select New Application
Agree to Rules
Create a new account.
You’ll receive your username (email address) and temporary password via email.
Use the login details to log in to the application system
Complete the Form.
Select up to two study programmes that interest you
Upload all necessary documents one at a time.
International applicants must pay the non-refundable fee before submitting.
Once all steps are complete, click the “Submit Your Application” tab.
Track Application Status.

N.B.: You will only be able to submit your online application once you have:

Completed the full online application form
Uploaded all the necessary scanned supporting documents in .pdf format, AND
Either paid the application fee by credit card OR upload proof of bank deposit at Standard Bank, Account Number 33 038 446 5.
If you have not clicked APPLY, your form has not been submitted.
