Is NSFAS Open For 2025-2026 Application

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is inviting applications for students unable to afford diploma or undergraduate degree courses at approved universities or Tvet College for the 2025 academic year.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is accepting applications for loans and bursaries for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applicants, parents, and guardians can apply online starting September 17, 2024. The scheme aims to support students into various undergraduate programs for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Dates for NSFAS Applications in 2025-2026

The management of NSFAS will release an online application form on September 17, 2024, and all university NSFAS applications will close on January 31, 2024

What Exactly Does The NSFAS Funding Cover?

Applicants who receive NSFAS funding are eligible for:

  • Fees for registration
  • Tuition costs

After your funding is confirmed, you may be eligible for the following allowances:

  • Allowance for living expenses
  • Learning Resources Personal Care Accommodation or Transportation

What Are The NSFAS Application Requirements?

You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident to apply. The combined gross household income should not be more than R350 000 per year. The combined gross household income of disabled people should not exceed R600,000 per year. SASSA recipients are automatically eligible for financial assistance. An email address and a cell phone number are required. Students who began their studies prior to 2018 have a combined household income of no more than R122 000 per year.

Where And How Do I Apply for NSFAS Funding?

Apply online at www.nsfas.org.za with a cellphone, tablet, or computer. To apply, follow these simple steps:

  • Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS tab.
  • Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account.
  • Step 3: Click the ‘APPLY’ button and fill out the fields on the screen.
  • Step 4: Include any supporting documents.
  • Step 5: Click the “Submit” button.

Please Note:

If you do not have a digital device or internet access, do not worry; simply go to your nearest National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) or Thusong Centre and apply in the same manner.

What Documents Are Required?

The correct supporting documents are critical in ensuring that NSFAS processes your funding application in time for your registration at a higher education institution. The following documents are required as supporting documentation:

  • A photocopy of your South African identification document or card
  • To replace ID documents, a student under the age of 18 must have a birth certificate.
  • a copy of your highest academic degree
  • A fully completed consent form signed by those on the forms who matter
  • Download and complete the DISABILITY ANNEXURE A form if you are a student with a disability.
  • Nsfas will require your parents’ or guardians’ ID cards.
  • If your parents have died, please provide a death certificate.
  • At least three of your relatives should serve as witnesses. Nsfas will need their ID cards.
  • Students who are working at the time of application must provide proof of annual income. This could be your pay stub, bank statement, or other documents showing how much you earn per year.
