Is Wits Still Open For 2024-2025 Applications
The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) is still accepting applications for the academic year 2024-2025. Any prospective applicant who has yet to apply for admission to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) for the academic year 2024-2025 can do so now because the application window remains open until October 2023. The application period, which began on March 01, 2023, will end on 31 October 2024, when the university will close all applications and begin the selection process. You can still apply to study at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) because the deadline has been extended to October 2023.
Application Closing Dates for 2024-2025 at Wits
All undergraduate course applications at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) will close on September 30, 2023, while postgraduate course applications will close on August 31, 2024. Late applications for undergraduate courses will be accepted in February 2024 if there are still spaces available. Because late applications are not guaranteed, it is preferable to apply now. Closing Date for Application Fee payment for 2024-2025
When applying for admission to the University of the Witwatersrand, you must pay an application fee. If you pay for the application, you will not be refunded if you are not admitted. If you do not pay the application fee, your application form is invalid. You must submit the application forms along with a copy of your payment proof by 30 September 2023. The university requires a photocopy of the receipt rather than the original.

Document submission and upload deadlines
Despite the fact that the deadline has been extended until October 2023, we encourage you to apply and submit all documents as soon as possible. The following documents must be received by the WITS admission office by the deadline, either online or by mail, depending on the qualification for which you wish to apply.

- Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).
- Already Matriculated:
- Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.
- Other Tertiary Institutions:
- Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar.
How to Apply online at WITS
You must submit your application as soon as possible because the application period is limited. Step 1: Choose your Programme
- You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter
- If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
- Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
- Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.
Step 2: Upload Supporting Documents
- If you did not upload supporting documents or pay your application fee at the time of application, you can still do so via the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za
- Log in with your personal number (NOT your T number) and the first six digits of your ID.
Step 3: Pay your Application Fee
- A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required and can be paid via the self-service portal.
- Your Reference Number: Is Wits Student /Person Number, ID Number (SA Citizens) or the application T Number (Temporary Number) obtained during your online application.
Step 4: Submit your applications
- Apply using your names as they reflect in your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames)
- Ensure that you submit the application and receive a letter acknowledging that your application has been submitted.
Uploading Outstanding Documents
All required documents must be uploaded via the student self-service portal @ https://self-service.wits.ac.za
- Student ID is your person/student number; Password is your birthdate in the format ‘YYMMDD.
- Student ID: Student Number/ Person Number
- Password: If DOB is 1994/09/28 you enter 940928
- Click on Documents & Communications tile to upload documents.
- Click on ‘Manage Documents’ to upload ALL items that reflect as Pending
- Remember to save your documents in PDF and name them correctly as you can only upload them once against a particular category.
- The uploaded documents would reflect as ‘Not verified ‘on your profile until they have been verified by the Admissions Office, they will then reflect as “Electronic”.
