Is Wits University Open For 2026 Applications

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) is now accepting applications for the 2026 academic year. Prospective students and applicants can apply for various programs offered on campus. The online application portal officially opened on March 1, 2025, allowing individuals to begin their application process.

Applicants have the option to apply through either online or paper-based applications, with a downloadable PDF form available from March 1, 2025. However, submitting applications through both methods is not allowed, and candidates must choose one format when applying

Applications for undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the 2026 academic year will be open from March 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025. However, some programs may have earlier closing dates. Click here to view the full list of WITS 2026 application closing dates.

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Application Fee for 2026

A non-refundable application fee is required to be paid before your application for admission is processed. A copy of the payment proof must be included with your application form, while the original proof should be retained for your records. The application fee is R100 for South African citizens and R700 for foreign citizens. Payment of the application fee must be made within the designated application deadlines.

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) accepts application fee payments in three ways:

Cash: Payments can be made directly at the Cashiers’ Office of your preferred Wits campus.
Bank deposit: Deposits can be made to the designated University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) bank account. Information regarding the bank account details can be found on the official Wits website.
Credit card: Payments can also be made using a credit card.

Please note that all application fees are non-refundable.

Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).

Already Matriculated:

Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.

Other Tertiary Institutions:

Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Application process

All new and returning applicants must submit their applications to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) by following the application guidelines outlined below.

Go to www.wits.ac.za, the official WITS website.
Click on the STUDY@WITS icon.
Select “Apply Online.”
Create an account by providing your ID and password.
Log in to the application portal using your ID number.
Read and accept the rules and regulations.
Select your qualification from the drop-down menu or type it in to view available programs.
Save and continue after selecting your course.
Complete all required fields in the application form.
Accept the rules once again.
Click on Submit to finalize your application.
Upload all required supporting documents.
Pay the application fee and upload proof of payment.
WITS will send an email confirmation upon receiving your application.
Your acknowledgment letter will contain a student number and the contact details of an Admissions Consultant for any queries

WITS Admission Requirements for 2026

Compliance with the minimum requirements does not guarantee a place at the University. The University has a specific number of places for first year undergraduates, approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training. Final selection is made subject to the availability of places, academic results and other entry requirements where applicable.
