Is Wits University Open For 2025-2026 Applications
Applications Now Open at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) for the 2025-2026 Academic Year! The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) is currently accepting applications from prospective students, applicants, and workers interested in pursuing programs offered on its campuses for the academic year 2025-2026. The online application process remains open as of March 1, 2024, allowing individuals to initiate their applications.
Starting March 1, 2024, a downloadable PDF application form will be accessible online. This is because Wits accepts applications through both online and paper formats. Applicants are responsible for choosing their preferred method and submitting their application accordingly. It is important to note that submitting an application through both online and paper methods is not permitted when applying for a program at Wits.
The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Application Dates for 2025-2026
The online application form, which includes a PDF version, is scheduled to be opened on the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) website on March 1, 2024.
All undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be closed to all South African students on September 30, 2024.
International applicants’ application forms, along with all supporting documentation, are required to be submitted by September 30, 2024.

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Application Fee for 2025-2026
A non-refundable application fee is required to be paid before your application for admission is processed. A copy of the payment proof must be included with your application form, while the original proof should be retained for your records. The application fee is R100 for South African citizens and R700 for foreign citizens. Payment of the application fee must be made within the designated application deadlines.
The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) accepts application fee payments in three ways:
- Cash: Payments can be made directly at the Cashiers’ Office of your preferred Wits campus.
- Bank deposit: Deposits can be made to the designated University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) bank account. Information regarding the bank account details can be found on the official Wits website.
- Credit card: Payments can also be made using a credit card.
Please note that all application fees are non-refundable.

Current Matriculants:
- Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).
Already Matriculated:
- Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.
Other Tertiary Institutions:
- Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Application process for 2025-2026
All new and returning applicants must submit their applications to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) by following the application guidelines outlined below.
Step 1: Choose your Programme
- You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter
- If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
- Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
- Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.
Step 2: Upload Supporting Documents
- If you did not upload supporting documents or pay your application fee at the time of application, you can still do so via the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za
- Log in with your personal number (NOT your T number) and the first six digits of your ID.
Step 3: Pay your Application Fee
- A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required and can be paid via the self-service portal.
Step 4: Submit your applications
- Apply using your names as they reflect in your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames)
- Ensure that you submit the application and receive a letter acknowledging that your application has been submitted.
