Rhodes University Admission Requirements For 2026 Intake

Each faculty at Rhodes University has its own specific entry requirements. To be considered for selection into degree, diploma, and certificate programs, applicants must meet the following general criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree:

    • NSC with 30% proficiency in the Higher Education Institution (HEI) language.
    • At least 4 subjects with 50-59% (excluding Life Orientation).
  • Diploma:

    • 40% in four higher credit subjects.
    • 30% in three lower credit subjects.
    • One subject failure allowed.
  • Certificate:

    • 40% pass in home language.
    • At least 2 subjects above 40%.
    • At least 4 subjects above 30%.
    • One subject failure allowed.

Rhodes Accommodation Applications 2026 

Rhodes University provides campus housing and residence facilities to new students upon successful course registration. Applications must be submitted online and not directly at the residences.

All first-year applicants seeking accommodation for the 2026 academic year must apply through Rhodes University at www.ru.ac.za. Make sure to indicate your accommodation preference in the appropriate section of the application form. Accommodation spaces will be allocated to applicants who apply via the RU portal and have received a conditional or firm admission offer for the 2026 academic year.

Rhodes University Student Financial Aid

Rhodes University offers Special Merit Awards to eligible students enrolling for the first time in an undergraduate degree. The awards, ranging from R29,940.00 to full tuition fees, are based on the final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results.

Please note the following conditions:

  • Should the student withdraw from Rhodes University during the academic year, the merit award will be reduced on a pro rata basis.
  • To qualify for one of these awards, a student must obtain at least 47 admission points in the NSC examination.
  • International students are not eligible for merit awards
