The University of Fort Hare (UFH) is set to reopen applications for the 2026 academic year, available both online and offline. Based on available information, the application cycle is expected to open in June this year, so applicants are encouraged to prepare in advance and apply early.
Opening Date For UFH Application 2026
The University of Fort Hare (UFH) will begin accepting applications for its 2026 undergraduate and postgraduate programs starting 1 June 2025. Applicants from all backgrounds, regardless of language, nationality, or religion, are welcome to apply. If you meet the entry requirements and are interested in any of the available courses, you are encouraged to submit an application.
University of Fort Hare Application Fee For 2026
To apply for a University of Fort Hare (UFH) admission, applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of R120, which can be paid online or in person. Payment methods include cash payments at campus cashiers’ offices, bank deposits, and credit card payments.

Please note: All applications must include the following documents at the time of submission. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
All Applicants:
- Proof of Identity: Certified copy of your ID or birth certificate.
- Proof of Application Fee Payment: Receipt for the compulsory and non-refundable application fee.
- Declaration form by Parent/Guardian for Minor Applicants (if applicable): Required for all applicants under the age of 18. Download the form from the University of Fort Hare’s homepage www.ufh.ac.za/apply
Additional Documents for Domestic Applicants:
- Certified copy of your Grade 12 examination results (or Grade 11 if still in progress).
- Certified copy of your marriage certificate.
Additional Documents for Overseas/Foreign Applicants:
- Certified copy of your first-page passport.

Application Steps:

New Applicant Registration:
- Select “NO” for the “Returning Student” question.
- Accurately provide your personal details, including contact information, email address, and residential address.
- Carefully review and agree to the terms and conditions before proceeding.

- Check your email for a student number and temporary PIN. You can change the PIN if desired.
- Log in using your student number and PIN.

- Download the prospectus to review the academic requirements
- Choose a program that meets your academic qualifications.

- Pay the application fee online using a credit card or offline (upload the receipt).

Document Submission:
- Scan and upload all required documents individually.
- Ensure each file is less than 5MB and in a supported format (tiff, pdf, jpg, or gif).
- Save each page before proceeding to avoid losing data.

UFH Admission Requirements for 2026
Selection for programs is influenced by program availability and admission requirements, with the best candidates chosen for undergraduate, postgraduate, and international applications. You need to possess the following qualifications
Undergraduate courses
- Applicants holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) need to pass a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
- Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
Postgraduate Courses
The admission requirements for postgraduate study vary depending on the program. You should contact the Faculty directly to find out what is required for the course or degree that you want to pursue.
International Applicants
Undergraduate
Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate. For more information regarding the evaluation of qualifications please visit the website of the Matriculation Board www.hesa.org.za. Declaration by Parent/Guardian for Minor Applicants must accompany all applications by learners under the age of 18.
Postgraduate
All applicants with non-South African qualifications are required to have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). For more information regarding the evaluation of qualifications please visit the SAQA website www.saqa.org.za.It is the responsibility of the prospective student to forward his/her documentation to SAQA.
