UNISA Admission Requirements For 2026 Intake

Each faculty at the University of South Africa has its own specific entry requirements. To be considered for selection into degree, diploma, and certificate programs, applicants must meet the following general criteria:

Bachelor’s Degree:
- NSC with 30% proficiency in the Higher Education Institution (HEI) language.
- At least 4 subjects with 50-59% (excluding Life Orientation).
Diploma:
- 40% in four higher credit subjects.
- 30% in three lower credit subjects.
- One subject failure allowed.
Certificate:
- 40% pass in home language.
- At least 2 subjects above 40%.
- At least 4 subjects above 30%.
- One subject failure allowed.

UNISA Accommodation Applications 2026

University of South Africa provides campus housing and residence facilities to new students upon successful course registration. Applications must be submitted online and not directly at the residences.

All first-year applicants seeking accommodation for the 2026 academic year must apply through the University of South Africa at www.unisa.ac.za. Make sure to indicate your accommodation preference in the appropriate section of the application form. Accommodation spaces will be allocated to applicants who apply via the UNISA portal and have received a conditional or firm admission offer for the 2026 academic year.

UNISA Student Financial Aid

The University of South Africa (Unisa) provides Special Merit Awards for eligible first-time undergraduate students. This bursary is available exclusively to South African citizens enrolled in a formal qualification at Unisa, covering only tuition fees and prescribed textbooks. To qualify, students must have achieved a minimum average of 75% in their previous year of study. Recipients of the bursary in 2025 do not need to reapply but must maintain the 75% average to remain eligible for the award in 2026.
