UP Admission Requirements For 2027 Intake

Each course at  the University of Pretoria has its own specific entry requirements. To assist you, below are the minimum entry requirements for admission into Degree, Diploma and Higher certificate

Higher Certificate

  • NCV Level 4 issued by the Council for General and Further Education and Training

Diploma

  • NCV Level 4 issued by the Council for General and Further Education and Training
  • At least 40% in three (3) Fundamental subjects including the language of learning and teaching in the higher education institution
  • At least 50% in the three (3) compulsory Vocational subjects
  • Must meet the minimum requirements of the higher education institution

Bachelor Degree

  • NCV Level 4 issued by the Council for General and Further Education and Training
  • At least 50% in three (3) Fundamental subjects including the language of learning and teaching in the higher education institution
  • At least 60% in four (4) compulsory Vocational subjects*
  • Must meet the minimum requirements of the higher education institution

In addition to the above, you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • A Certificate of Complete Exemption or Foreign Conditional Exemption obtainable from USAf
  • The University of Pretoria no longer use the NBT results for admission

All prospective students are required by  University of Pretoria to submit the following documents as part of the application process:

Postgraduate Documents Required

  • Identity Document
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Original Proof of payment of the application fee
  • Matric Certificate
  • SAQA clearance certificate (foreign student)
  • Academic Record, including proof that the Certificate of Conduct has been requested from the previous University / University of Technology / Technikon if you had registered at another institution

  • Grade 11 Final Results and Term 1 Grade 12 Results (If you are currently doing matric)

Steps to Successfully Apply for the University of Pretoria 2027 Intake

To complete and submit your online application, ensure that you have:

  • Uploaded all required supporting documents in .pdf format.
  • Paid the application fee via credit card or uploaded proof of payment for a bank deposit made to Standard Bank (Account Number: 012602604).
  • Clicked the “Apply” button—if this step is not completed, your application remains unsubmitted

  • From the drop-down menu, select “Start a New Application.”
  • Accept the privacy notice by clicking OK.
  • Ensure that all special characters are correctly entered.
  • Provide your personal details in the required fields.
  • Carefully enter the characters shown in the security code field.
  • Click on the “Go” tab to proceed.
  • Read the application confirmation page and disclaimer carefully—keep this page for reference.

  • Verify and finalize your application, then click “Continue.”
  • You will receive a student ID and temporary password via email—ensure you use an active email address.
  • Use your ID number and password to log in by following the link provided in the email.
  • If desired, create a new password for future access.
  • Click “Save and Next” to continue.
  • Review and edit your application summary page before proceeding.
  • Begin your online application and ensure all required fields are completed.
  • Upload the necessary documents in the correct format.
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee into the university’s official account.
    • When submitting your application, a non-refundable application fee of R300 (approximately 30 US Dollars) is required. This fee must be paid into the university’s official account to complete your application process.

UP Accommodation Applications 2027 

University of Pretoria provides campus housing and residence facilities to new students upon successful course registration. Applications must be submitted online and not directly at the residences.

  • Placement takes place on an ongoing basis as application forms are received and processed until all the residences are full. Thus, the sooner a student applies, the better the chances of securing a place in a residence.
  • NSFAS students must have a provisional or firm acceptance before being admitted into a residence.
  • Bursary students must provide proof of their bursary upon registration.
  • To apply for the UP residence, You are required to indicate on the 2026 application form
  • No additional form is required.
