Applications for undergraduate study in 2025 open March 1, 2024, while applications for Semester 2 short courses open April 1, 2024.

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) will accept applications for all qualifications starting on March 1, 2024. The application period closes on September 30, 2024. Wits Entry Requirements for 2025-2026

Some programmes require students to submit additional information as part of their application. Applications without the additional requirements will not be considered

How to Apply to Wits University 2025-2026

To apply to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), follow the steps outlined below.

Log in to the Application Portal

  • Recommendation for a Browser (Mozilla Firefox and Chrome)
  • Go to www.wits.ac.za/applications/ if you have a good internet connection.

Programme Selection

  • Choose your programs wisely (Maximum of 3 programmes)
  • If you apply to two programs in the same Faculty, it is advised that you apply to one program in a less restricted faculty.
  • Be flexible, especially if you’re applying to programs in Faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
  • Do not enter the program duration because the system will recognize the year you are applying for.

Effect the application fee payment

  • A non-refundable application fee of R100 is required for South African citizens and R700 for foreign citizens.

Upload the supporting documents

  • Gather your documents or upload further/ outstanding documents. These Documents must be in the format required by the university such as PDF AND TIFF

Submit the Online forms

  • You will receive an email from the University confirming receipt of your application.
  • The acknowledgement letter will include a personal number (which will become your student number) as well as a contact person to whom you should direct any questions.
  • The student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za will house all University correspondence.
