University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Online Application for 2025-2026 Academic Year Now Open! The online application form for the 2025-2026 academic year has been opened by the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). All those interested in studying at Wits are encouraged to log into the application portal to complete the online form or download it for manual completion.

The online application portal for the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) is open on March 01, 2024, and will remain open until 30 September 2024. Please choose a course that corresponds to your grade and apply for it. If you are unsure about the grade, download the prospectus and learn about the prerequisites before enrolling in the course.

Admission requirements for the various programs offered by the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) are available in the university’s brochure or prospectus, as well as on the university’s official website. If you are applying for health sciences, you may be required to take a series of tests to help with placement for the 2025-2026 academic year.

WITS Online Application Login

To access the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) application form, prospective applicants must log into the application portal using their login information. A smart device and a browser are required to access the portal of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) for online applications. Google Chrome is the recommended browser for online applications. The majority of browsers are incompatible with the online application portal, and using them may cause the process to fail. You can begin submitting applications on March 01, 2024. Because the online application portal is mobile phone friendly, you can complete the online application form using a smartphone.

How to Use the University of the Witwatersrand’s (Wits) Application Portal

The application login or portal of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) is available on the university’s official website. Visit the official website of WITS @ https://www.wits.ac.za/ using a smart device connected to the internet. The application portal can be found under the “Study at Wits” tab on the home page. Complete all the information that is requested. All fields with a red asterisk are compulsory. This means you will not be allowed to proceed if left blank or incorrect information is supplied.

Step 1: Choose your Programme

• You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter
• If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
• Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
• Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.

Step 2: Upload Supporting Documents

• If you did not upload supporting documents or pay your application fee at the time of application, you can still do so via the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za
• Log in with your personal number (NOT your T number) and the first six digits of your ID.

Step 3: Pay your Application Fee

• A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required and can be paid via the self-service portal.

Step 4: Submit your applications

• Apply using your names as they reflect in your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames)
• Ensure that you submit the application and receive a letter acknowledging that your application has been submitted.

• Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).

Already Matriculated: 

• Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.

Transfer Students:

• Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar
