University of Johannesburg will open its 2027 application window on April 1, 2026. Prospective students who wish to further their studies are encouraged to prepare their application materials in advance so they can submit their applications as soon as the window opens and complete the process early.

For the 2027 application cycle, the University of Johannesburg offers free online applications. There is no application fee when you apply through the university’s online portal.
However, applicants who choose to submit a manual (paper-based) application will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of R200.

Local Applicants
- Certified duplicates of your identification documents (ID)
- If you have completed your Grade 12 exams, you must provide a certified copy of your results.
- Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you are currently in Grade 12)
Foreign or International have their share below:
- A certified copy of your native country’s identification document
- A certified copy of your passport number from your home country
- Study Visa in South Africa
- Medical Report
- English Proficiency For Undergraduate programs, proof of IELTS with an overall score of 6 and TOEFL with an average score of 80–104 is required

How to Apply to the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Online for Admission
To apply to the University of Johannesburg (UJ), you must complete all of the steps outlined below:
Log in to the application portal
- Go to the official website: www.uj.ac.za/Apply.
- Choose “New Applicant” if you are applying for the first time.
- Select Yes or No to indicate if you have a student number.
- If you are returning to finish an incomplete application, select Yes or No.
Accept the Clause to Proceed
- Review the terms and click on “I Accept” to proceed.
Register your profile
- Enter your Biographical details, Contact Information, Residence Information, and nationality. ( Please enter your biographical details in CAPS.)
- Click on the Next Button to continue to the next page
- You will then receive an email with your Student Number and a temporary pin. You can choose to change or keep the pin.
Log in with your new student number
- Enter your student number and pin now.
Choose your field of studies
- Choose your course after reviewing the individual course prerequisites. Before applying, download the university prospectus and review the course requirements. The decision will be based on these criteria. Please reconsider your selection if it does not meet the requirements.
Pay the Required Fee
- Pay the application fee and upload the proof of payment on the portal during the online submission
Upload the supporting documents
- Keep uploading the necessary documents. These documents must be scanned and uploaded individually. The scanned files should not exceed 5MB or 512KB in size. Tiff, pdf, jpg, or gif file formats are required.
- Remember to save each page before moving on to the next. If you do not save your data before proceeding, you will lose it.
Submit your application
- Please ensure that you press the Submit Application button once you have completed your application to ensure that they receive it.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission to UJ in 2027, you must have obtained a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an International Secondary Certificate (ISC) issued by Umalusi, confirming eligibility for a bachelor’s degree. The following requirements must also be met:
- A minimum of 50% in at least four NSC 20-credit subjects.
- A satisfactory APS score.
- At least 50% in the language of learning and teaching
Learners who have not written the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Independent Examinations Board (IEB) final examinations, but fall in the categories listed below will be referred to the faculties for faculty-specific selection:
- ACE School of Tomorrow
- NCV, NASCA, SC(a)
- N3/N4/N5/N6 results
- Any other final school-leaving certificates not aforementioned.
- PsyCaD evaluation and NBT results may be required
