Prospective students seeking financial assistance for universities and colleges for the academic year 2024-2025 can now apply to Nsfas, a South African entity that provides financial assistance to South African students, as the admissions and application window has opened. The online Nsfas Funding application for the academic year 2024-2025, which begins on September 28, 2023, is now open to all prospective students interested in securing financial aid to fund their undergraduate degree or diploma course until graduation.
NSFAS online applications will be accepted beginning September 28, 2023. This is the official start date and time when all prospective applications for the academic year 2024-2025 will be accepted. The NSFAS online application will be closed on January 31, 2024, and late applications for NSFAS funding will be rejected.

If you are a South African citizen studying at a public university or TVET college, you may apply. If you registered and began studying before 2018, your combined household income must not exceed R122 000 per year in order to qualify. However, if you registered for the first time in 2018 or after, your combined household income cannot exceed R350 000 per year.
Is it necessary to reapply if you previously applied and were denied?
Yes, if you applied for NSFAS in 2023 or prior years and your application was denied, but you still require funding for 2024, you may reapply if you meet the funding criteria for 2024. You must submit an entirely new application form.

Both new and previous students must create a new profile. The username will then be converted into the student’s ID number.
How to submit a manual application for Nsfas Funding in 2024-2025
Follow the steps below to apply for Nsfas funding using a paper-based application.
- Step 1: Download the Application Form from www.nsfas.org.za;
- Step 2: Print the document out after downloading it
- Step 3: Fill out the form completely and answer all questions in black ink (pen);
- Step 4: Check that the names on your identity document (ID) and certificates are the same and in the same order; and
- Step 5: Attach all supporting documents before submission
- Step 6: Manually submit your fully completed application form and supporting documents to your university’s or FET college’s Financial Aid Office (FAO) or email them to apply@nsfas.org.za.
Can You apply for more than 1 qualification?
When applying for Nsfas funding, students may select up to three fields of study. This is due to the fact that the information will be used to better understand applicant study decisions. Furthermore, this information may enable NSFAS to refer unsuccessful applicants to other funders for the 2024-2025 academic year.
What Documents are required For NSFAS Funding for 2024/2025
Below are the documents required for Nsfas online application form for 2024-2025:
- GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER
- Soft copies of all supporting documentation (tiff, pdf, jpg or gif)
- Make sure the scanned file is no larger than 512KB.
- Certified and individually scanned documents (NOT MANDATORY)
- A photocopy of your South African identification document or card
- To replace ID documents, a student under the age of 18 must have a birth certificate.
- a copy of your highest academic degree
- A fully completed consent form signed by those on the forms who matter
- Download and complete the DISABILITY ANNEXURE A form if you are a student with a disability.
- Nsfas will require your parents’ or guardians’ ID cards.
- If your parents have died, please provide a death certificate.
- At least three of your relatives should serve as witnesses. Nsfas will need their ID cards.
- Students who are working at the time of application must provide proof of annual income. This could be your pay stub, bank statement, or other documents showing how much you earn per year.
Can you apply online For Nsfas Funding without an e-mail and/or cell phone number?
You will need a working cellphone, a valid cellphone number, and your own email address to apply for NSFAS funding. A tablet or computer can also be used. If you don’t have a cellphone, you can borrow one from a trusted guardian or relative, but it’s best if you have your own phone number. There may be no more than two applicants who use the same cellphone number or email address. This information is required to set up a myNSFAS account, which will be used to apply for funding.
How to submit your supporting documents while you are processing your online application
During the online application process, the system of NSFAS will prompt you to upload documents. Please upload the appropriate document to the appropriate certificate codes.
