DUT Online Applications Now Open for 2025-2026 Academic Year. The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is now open and accepting applications for undergraduate and postgraduate courses starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications can be submitted online starting April 1, 2024.

We encourage prospective students with good grades and who meet the program’s entry requirements to apply.

DUT Online Application Conditions and Requirements

No student may be enrolled in a Durban University of Technology (DUT) program unless he or she has completed the online application/manual process and entry requirements for the academic year 2025-2026. The prospectus contains the complete set of admission requirements, as well as all of the courses and statutory conditions.

Submitting Your First-Year Application to DUT for 2025 Entry

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) accepts applications for first-year students through the Central Applications Office (CAO).  You can choose between applying online or submitting a paper application.

  • Online Application: Visit the CAO application portal at www.cao.ac.za to access the online application form.
  • Paper Application: Download the application form from the CAO website and complete it using a black pen.

Please Note:

  • You cannot submit both an online and paper application.
  • Only one application is allowed per academic year.
  • The CAO will process all applications for DUT.

DUT Application fee Payable

Make sure that your application AND fee reach the CAO before the closing date. Submission of an application form does not imply that you have been accepted as a student, or that you may register. All applicants will be notified via email/SMS, of the outcome of their application. Include the appropriate application fee of R250 (SA Citizens) / R300 (International applicants) when submitting your application form

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Online Application Process for 2025

Prospective students must first apply for a CAO NUMBER, which will serve as a unique identifier or identity number throughout their academic career.

  • Go to the official website, cao.ac.za, and click “Apply.” After reading the information, click ” Continue with Application.”
  • After you’ve entered your ID number, click “Submit.”
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and then click “Continue with Application.”
  • Fill in ALL of the required information first.
  • Once you’ve completed all of the required fields, click “Next.” It is necessary to click “Continue with Online Application.”
  • Your CAO number, password, and EasyPay number will be visible and known in a pop-up window.

Now Apply for your course using your newly generated CAO Number

  • Click “Continue with Online Application.” after seeing your number
  • After thoroughly reading the instructions and providing ALL required information, click “Next.”
  • Click “Next” after filling out the “Next of Kin” information.
  • When the name of the school appears in a box, enter the dates of your initial enrollment and graduation before clicking “Search.” Repeat this process until all of the required fields are filled.
  • To proceed, click “Next.”
  • Now that your application has been submitted, click the button that says “process my application.”
  • A notification will appear on your screen if your submission was successful.
  • You can now pay online and upload supporting documentation.
  • Submit the forms for approval.

Where to get a Durban University of Technology Application Form For 2025-2026

  • Application Forms are posted to your school (DUT). Find out from your principal and LO teacher. This application material should have reached your school by the end of February.
  • Handbooks and Application Forms are also available from the four universities in KZN and from the DBE District Offices.
  • Some Libraries also have Handbooks and Application Forms.

What Documents are Needed to Apply to the Durban University of Technology

In order for your application to be considered complete all required documents must be submitted as required:

  • Certified copies of your identity document
  • Final Grade 11 & Grade 12 certificate ( June/ Trial report if you have not written your final examination)
  • Students transferring from other universities should submit an original academic record and a certificate of good conduct
  • A valid study permit
  • A valid medical aid/health insurance cover
  • A valid passport

Admission Requirements for undergraduate candidates at DUT For 2025-2026

In order to study at the Durban University of Technology candidates need to meet the following criteria:

  • The National Senior Certificate (NSC) required for Degree, Diploma or Higher Certificate study, as appropriate
  • A minimum number of points is calculated on the university’s points system
  • A pass at the required level in each of the subjects specified for the programme into which the candidate seeks admission
