Applications to the University of Pretoria (UP) for the 2025-2026 academic year are opening up on April 2nd, 2024. This applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The University of Pretoria (UP) Application Deadline for 2025-2026 Admissions
The University of Pretoria (UP) is accepting applications for first-semester enrollment in the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications are open from April 2, 2024, to June 30, 2024. This is your chance to apply – submit your application by the deadline to be considered for admission. Late applications will not be accepted.

On the online application, all applicants must select a first and second choice.
The University of Pretoria (UP) Online Application Conditions and Requirements
No student may be enrolled in a University of Pretoria (UP) program unless he or she has completed the online application/manual process and entry requirements for the academic year 2025-2026. The prospectus contains the complete set of admission requirements, as well as all of the courses and statutory conditions. The Online Application System is intended for use by new prospective students submitting an application to UP for the first time. It is not intended for students presently registered at the University of Pretoria.
How to Apply to The University of Pretoria for the First Time in 2025
The online application site requires Internet Explorer (IE) version 7 or 8 or higher browsers
Prospective students applying to UP for the first time must either login to the application at https://upnet.up.ac.za/psc/upapply/EMPLOYEE/SA/c/UP_OAP_MENU.UP_OAP_LOGIN.GBL? or fill out a paper application. Prospective applicants can either electronically complete the online application or download the hard copy from the University of Pretoria’s official website and fill it out with a black pen. It is not permitted to use both the hard copy and the online portal simultaneously. Each academic year, you may only submit one application form.
When you get to the screen where you are requested to capture the marks, please ensure that you capture your marks/symbols accurately and in the sequence as reflected on your school document. If you record your marks incorrectly, the University reserves the right to reject or revoke your admission
After your application has been processed you will receive communication from the University of Pretoria, explaining how to access your Student Centre through the UP Student Portal, enabling you to track your progress and status, as well as other communications and possible outstanding items. Some applications for specialised fields might only be processed after the official closing date.

Make sure that your application AND fee reach the University of Pretoria before the closing date. Submission of an application form does not imply that you have been accepted as a student, or that you may register. All applicants will be notified via email/SMS, of the outcome of their application. Include the appropriate application fee of R 300 (SA Citizens) / USD 30 (International applicants) when submitting your application form
The University of Pretoria Online Application Process for 2025
- When you access the Online Application you will be requested to provide an email address to which UP can send communications.
- Please take care not to make typing errors when providing your email address. If you require a brand new email address, create a new Gmail email address
- You will be required to capture your South African National ID number or if you are an international applicant, your Passport number
- You will later need to scan your ID/Passport document so that it is available to be uploaded.
- When you start using the Online Application you will be requested to indicate the “Career” for which you are applying
- If you have never studied before or have not obtained any degree yet (new first-year students), please select an Undergraduate career.
- If you have already obtained one or more degree/s, please select the Postgraduate career
- An undergraduate applicant for the first time needs to capture the details of School and School results, which could be either of the following:
- Your year-end Grade 11 marks, or
- If you have already completed Grade 12, your final Grade 12 results.
- You will later need to scan the school’s results so that it is available to be uploaded.
- When you get to the screen where you are requested to capture the marks, please ensure that you capture your marks/symbols accurately and in the sequence as reflected on your school document
- If you have applied Online, you will receive a student number in your email inbox within approximately 15 working days after submission

Where to get a University of Pretoria Application Form For 2025-2026
A hard copy of the University of Pretoria can be obtained from the university’s official website or from the university’s campus. Fill out the form and mail it to the university. Paper applications may take longer to process, resulting in a delay in receiving your student ID. Your application number will not allow you to access the student portal. You can create a profile as a new user on the portal once you have a student number.
What Documents are Needed to Apply to the University of Pretoria
In order for your application to be considered complete all required documents must be submitted as required:
- Your year-end Grade 11 marks, or
- If you have already completed Grade 12, your final Grade 12 results.
- You will later need to scan the school’s results so that it is available to be uploaded.
- A certified academic record and a certificate of conduct will need to be scanned and uploaded.

Admission Requirements for undergraduate candidates at UP For 2025-2026
In order to study at the University of Pretoria candidates need to meet the following criteria:
- The first requirement to study for a bachelor’s degree in South Africa is a Universities South Africa (USAf) exemption
Higher Certificate
- NCV Level 4 issued by the Council for General and Further Education and Training
- Compliance with the requirements for the language of learning and teaching in the higher education institution
- Must meet the minimum requirements of the higher education institution
Diploma
- NCV Level 4 issued by the Council for General and Further Education and Training
- At least 40% in three (3) Fundamental subjects including the language of learning and teaching in the higher education institution
- At least 50% in the three (3) compulsory Vocational subjects
- Must meet the minimum requirements of the higher education institution
Bachelor Degree
- NCV Level 4 issued by the Council for General and Further Education and Training
- At least 50% in three (3) Fundamental subjects including the language of learning and teaching in the higher education institution
- At least 60% in four (4) compulsory Vocational subjects*
- Must meet the minimum requirements of the higher education institution
