The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) announces for the information of the general public, applicants, parents, and guardians that applications are open for the funding of prospective applicants into various undergraduate programs for the 2025/2026 academic year. Applicants interested in applying for funding (loan and bursary) from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) must scan, attach, and submit all required supporting documents online via www.nsfas.org.za starting from Friday, 20th of September 2024.

NSFAS Eligibility and Qualification Requirements

All South African students who are currently enrolled or who plan to enroll in a public university or Tvet school in January 2024 and whose family or household yearly gross income is not more than R350,000 are eligible and qualified to apply for an NSFAS bursary. This is the first requirement for receiving funding for your undergraduate studies from the NSFAS. Below is a list of the criteria for NSFAS eligibility, which includes the following.

South African citizenship or permanent residency.
Your family’s combined annual income should fall below R350,000
Enrollment in a public university or TVET college.
Academic performance.
There is no age limit
Previous NSFAS loans and repayment history.
Special and disabled students with a household gross annual income of no more than R600,000.
Students offering an undergraduate higher certificate, diploma, or first/bachelor degree qualifications

NSFAS Application Dates For 2025

The NSFAS application period for the 2025 academic year starts on September 20, 2024, and ends on January 31, 2025, with the link operational on the same day. Any application submitted outside of this period will be rejected.

A certified copy of your ID that is no older than three months and a completed consent form (All Applicants)

Go to the NSFAS website (https://nsfas.org.za/content/) and click on the “myNSFAS” button.
Enter your personal details to start with the registration of your account or profile.
Enter your email address and phone number to create a myNSFAS account if you don’t already have one.
Create a strong password
Enter your OTP password to verify your account
Click on Apply
Review and accept the NSFAS terms and conditions.
Update your personal and contact details
Upload all supporting documents
Submit your application for review.

What are NSFAS TVET Online Application Dates 2025-2026

Application to secure Tvet College NSFAS funding is now open for the various semesters in all the 50 accredited Tvet Colleges in South Africa. Below is the breakdown of the Tvet College NSFAS application dates and closing dates for 2025-2026

How to Register and Re-register for Nsfas online application form 2025-2026

Before completing the online application form, prospective applicants must register as Nsfas portal users. To register as a user, please follow the steps below.

Step № 1.1: Applicants should go to www.nsfas.org.za to apply.
Step № 1.2: Click on the “myNSFAS” tab at the top right corner of the NSFAS webpage. The myNSFAS page will open with the welcome message “Welcome to the myNSFAS student portal.”
• Step № 1.3: To Re-register your myNSFAS account, enter your username (email address) and password.
• Step № 1.4: If you want to register, please click the “Register” button. Before registering your profile, please ensure that you have a valid copy of your South African ID or an unabridged birth certificate copy.
• Step № 1.5: Check the box to authorize NSFAS to verify and validate the information you’ve provided with third parties in 2024.
• Step № 1.6: Then, enter your ID number into the field exactly as it appears on your ID document.
