  • Thursday, 31 July 2025, for undergraduate programs
  • Saturday, 30 August 2025, for postgraduate programs

How to Apply at SMU Online for Admission 2026

To successfully apply to Sefako Makgatho University (SMU) for the 2026 academic year, follow all the required steps carefully. Each step is crucial and must be completed without skipping any. Ensure you complete every necessary action in the application process.

  • Visit www.smu.ac.za.
  • Click on Online Applications.
  • If you’re a new applicant, select “No”, and choose “No” again if you wish to complete the application later.
  • Accept the POPI Act terms and conditions.
  • Enter your Token Specific to Qualification (provided by SMU).
  • Click the “Next” button to continue.
  • Provide the full names of all relatives and those responsible for payment.
  • Enter your address and contact number.
  • Select the qualification type you’re applying for (e.g., undergraduate or postgraduate).
  • Input your last school leaving certificate number and your matriculation/Grade 12 year.
  • Complete all required fields, including personal and academic details.
  • Type the name of your most recent high school.
  • Choose the qualification, campus, and instruction language.
  • Upload all necessary supporting documents. Documents to Upload include:
    • Certified copies of your ID/passport
    • Grade 11/12 results
    • Academic record (if you have attended other universities, including SMU)
    • Proof of payment of the non-refundable application fee
  • Review all information to ensure it is correct.
  • Confirm the accuracy of your details and submit your application.
  • Pay the R300 non-refundable application fee and upload the proof of payment.
  • Receive an application confirmation and track your application status through your portal

NOTE:

You will only be able to submit your SMU online application once you have:

  • Completed the full online application form
  • Uploaded all the necessary scanned supporting documents in .pdf format
  • Sefako Makgatho University Online application fee is R300
  • If you have not clicked APPLY, your form has not been submitted
