UJ 2027 Applications: Dates, Requirements & How to Apply

Applications for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) for 2027 are now open. Unfortunately, no late applications will be accepted, so you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, starting Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

Prospective students interested in undergraduate programmes — including diplomas, higher certificates, and bachelor’s degrees — as well as postgraduate students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees, are encouraged to read this article for more details.

How to Apply to UJ

Follow the steps below to successfully apply to the University of Johannesburg (UJ):

Application Materials

Gather the following documents

South African Applicant

  • Certified duplicates of your identification documents (ID)
  • If you have completed your Grade 12 exams, you must provide a certified copy of your results.
  • Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you are currently in Grade 12)

Any other countries besides South Africa

  • A certified copy of your native country’s identification document
  •  A certified copy of your passport number from your home country
  • Study Visa in South Africa
  • Medical Report
  • English Proficiency For Undergraduate programs, proof of IELTS with an overall score of 6 and TOEFL with an average score of 80–104 is required
  • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English).

Application Fees

Submitting an application online is free of charge. However, applicants who choose to apply manually will be required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of R200. Those submitting manual applications must include proof of payment by attaching a copy of the receipt to their fully completed 2027 application form before submission.

Entry Requirements

Some programmes require students to submit additional information as part of their application. Applications without the additional requirements will not be considered

Admission requirements for all the University of Johannesburg (UJ) programs are included in the Prospectus booklet and pamphlets, as well as general admission information, qualification structures, and information on where each program is offered. Prospective students should check the subject and grade requirements of the program they want to study before applying.

UJ Manual Applications 2027

You may submit a completed application form that you downloaded from the University of Johannesburg’s official website. An R200 application fee is charged for hardcopy applications.

Closing Date

You must complete and submit a fully completed application form, together with all supporting documents, by 31 October 2026, as the UJ application portal will close on that date

UJ Online Application Process for 2027

To apply to the University of Johannesburg (UJ), follow the steps outlined below.

Log in to the application portal

  • Visit the official website at ul.ac.za/Apply if you have good internet access.
  • If you are a new applicant, select “New Applicant.”
  • Select Yes/No from the drop box if you have the student number.
  • Select Yes/No from the drop-down menu to indicate whether you are returning to finish an unfinished application.

Accept the Clause to Proceed

  • Read the clause that appears after the previous step and check the box “I Accept.” to continue

Register your profile

  • Enter your Biographical details, Contact Information, Residence Information, and nationality. ( Please enter your biographical details in CAPS.)
  • Click on the Next Button to continue to the next page
  • You will then receive an email with your Student Number and a temporary pin. You can choose to change or keep the pin.

Log in with your new student number

  • Enter your student number and PIN now.

Choose your field of studies

  • Choose your course after reviewing the individual course prerequisites.
  • Before applying, download the university prospectus and review the course requirements.
  • The decision will be based on these criteria. Please reconsider your selection if it does not meet the requirements.

Pay the Required Fee

  • Pay the application fee and upload the proof of payment on the portal during the online submission (Manual Applicants only)

Upload the supporting documents

  • Keep uploading the necessary documents. These documents must be scanned and uploaded individually.
  • The scanned files should not exceed 5MB or 512KB in size. Tiff, pdf, jpg, or gif file formats are required.
  • Remember to save each page before moving on to the next.
  • If you do not save your data before proceeding, you will lose it.

Submit your application

  • Please ensure that you press the Submit Application button once you have completed your application to ensure that they receive it.
