  • Grade 12 results, grade 11 results (final results only) or a copy of your matric certificate – if you have already passed matric.
  • Applicants who are currently upgrading their grade 12 results, will only be considered after the improved results are presented to the NWU.
  • Applicants who follow Cambridge, GED or any other non-NSC curriculum, or who may qualify for exemption based on advanced age or post-school qualifications, must provide an exemption certificate as issued by USAF.

How to Apply online to North-West University

To apply for the 2026 academic intake at North-West University (NWU), please follow these steps:

  • Log in to the application portal
    • For online applications, visit the application portal at www.nwu.ac.za
    • Select and Click on Apply Online
    • Choose the New Application tab and click on it.
  • Register your Profile
    • Go to create a new student number. Complete the boxes and enter a new student number.

Admission Advice for NWU 

  • Meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen/intended programme of study does not guarantee admission, as limited spaces are available in each programme.
  • You must however meet all the minimum admission requirements for the programme you intend to study before you will be considered for admission.
  • Before you apply, download the NWU prospectus and read about the statutory and university requirements of your preferred course.
  • Owing to specific capacity constraints, the University reserves the right to select candidates for admission to certain fields of study. This means that prospective students who comply with the minimum requirements will not automatically be admitted to the courses in question.
  • Because of the capacity limitations and the high demand from students for admission to particular fields of study, students will be selected on the basis of their Grade 12 results for admission to these fields
