The Online Application Process for the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) for the 2025-2026 Academic Year! The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) officially opened its online application portal for prospective undergraduate students on March 1, 2024. The application period will close on September 30, 2024. All applicants seeking admission to Wits for the 2025-2026 academic year are required to submit their applications through the online portal. Manual applications will not be accepted.

When to Apply to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) for 2025
Applications for bachelor, master’s, and PhD programs or courses at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) are being accepted from Friday, March 1, 2024, to Monday, September 2024
The application window for local and international applicants was opened on March 1, 2024. On March 1, 2024, all undergraduate and Postgraduate courses are opened for enrollment for 2025-2026.

Late Applications for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) for 2025-2026
The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) will accept late applications for programs with available spaces as of the closing dates. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into a program after the application deadline. Competition for space in higher education institutions is fierce. Late applications are typically accepted in February each year. We will notify our readers as soon as the date is announced.

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Application Requirements for 2025-2026
One (1) Certified Copy of each of the following documents must be attached:
- Proof of application fee
- ID Documents
- Upload your final Grade 11 results (no hardcopy required).
- Upload certified copies of all your matric certificates/foreign school leaving certificates.
- Upload a certified copy of official academic records for ALL tertiary registrations, inclusive of a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar.
How to Apply online to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) For 2025
Comply with the following steps to apply for your course at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Step 1: Choose your Programme
- You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter
- If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
- Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
- Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.
Step 2: Upload Supporting Documents
- If you did not upload supporting documents or pay your application fee at the time of application, you can still do so via the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za
- Log in with your personal number (NOT your T number) and the first six digits of your ID.
Step 3: Pay your Application Fee
- A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required and can be paid via the self-service portal.
- Your Reference Number: Is Wits Student /Person Number, ID Number (SA Citizens) or the application T Number (Temporary Number) obtained during your online application.
Step 4: Submit your applications
- Apply using your names as they reflect in your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames)
- Ensure that you submit the application and receive a letter acknowledging that your application has been submitted.
- Keep your contact details up-to-date on self-service
- Check the status of your application and To Do items (Manage Documents) on the student self-service portal regularly.
WITS Admission Tips for 2025
- Meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen/intended programme of study does not guarantee admission, as limited spaces are available in each programme.
- You must however meet all the minimum admission requirements for the programme you intend to study before you will be considered for admission.
