For students who want to pursue careers in teaching, the Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme is currently accepting applications. Contrary to popular belief, most graduates would prefer not to pursue careers in teaching because there are insufficient rewards. The Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme was established to help students with their education financially to encourage a large number of people to pursue careers as teachers. Students who wish to pursue education qualifications at the undergraduate and graduate levels can benefit greatly from the Funza Lushaka Bursary.

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme covers tuition costs and provides a monthly allowance to help with living expenses.

 

The multi-year Funza Lushaka Bursary Program aims to encourage teaching as a career. The Funza Lushaka Bursary is offered to eligible students so they can finish their teaching qualification in priority areas at a university recognized by a public higher education institution (HEI). It is overseen by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and is financed by the National Treasury.

2024 Funza Lushaka Eligibility Requirements:

To be accepted, an application for Funza Lushaka must meet all requirements. Common essential prerequisites comprise

  • Excellence in Academic
  • Citizenship of South Africa
  • Acceptance into a university’s teaching program
  • Those who are awarded the bursary are required to teach in a public school for the same number of years.
  • You have to be 30 years of age or under.

Funza Lushaka Bursary Coverage

The Funza Lushaka Bursary covers:

  • The cost of accommodation
  • Food Allowance
  • Learning material allowances
  • Monthly Allowances for living/daily expenses. The Monthly allowance or stipend is R600.00 for living expenses

Qualification Funded by Funza

Funza Lushaka provides funding for student studying:

  • Bachelor of Education (B.ED)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme primarily helps students who want to pursue careers in education. Each month, a R600 allowance will be given to you to cover living expenses.
