UJ Admission Requirements For 2026 Intake

Each course at  the University of Johannesburg has its own specific entry requirements. To assist you, below are the minimum entry requirements for admission into Degree, Diploma and Higher certificate

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate with a Bachelor’s Degree endorsement.
  • Diploma: Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate with a Diploma endorsement.
  • Higher Certificate: Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate with a Higher Certificate endorsement.

In addition to the above, you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • An achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) or higher in English Home Language or English First Additional Language.
  • An achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) or higher in four subjects, plus at least a rating of 2 (30–39%) in one subject.
  • An achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) or higher in Life Orientation.

Documents Required for UJ 2026 Applications

All prospective students are required by the University of Johannesburg to submit the following documents as part of the application process:

South African

  • Certified duplicates of your identification documents (ID)
  • If you have completed your Grade 12 exams, you must provide a certified copy of your results.
  • Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you are currently in Grade 12)

International students

  • A certified copy of your native country’s identification document
  •  A certified copy of your passport number from your home country
  • Study Visa in South Africa
  • Medical Report
  • English Proficiency For Undergraduate programs, proof of IELTS with an overall score of 6 and TOEFL with an average score of 80–104 is required
  • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)

How to Apply at UJ 2026

Follow the guidelines and steps below to apply to the University of Johannesburg for admission 2026

  • Use Mozilla Firefox or Chrome
  • Ensure you have stable internet
  • Go to the official website: www.uj.ac.za/Apply.
  • Choose “New Applicant” if you are applying for the first time.
  • Select Yes or No to indicate if you have a student number.
  • If you are returning to finish an incomplete application, select Yes or No.
  • Review the terms and click on “I Accept” to proceed.
  • Provide your Biographical, Contact, Residence, and Nationality details in capital letters.
  • Click on the “Next” button to continue to the next page.
  • Check your inbox for an email containing your Student Number and temporary PIN (you can change the PIN if desired).
  • Enter your Student Number and the PIN provided.

  • Complete all fields marked with a red asterisk
  • Pay the application fee and upload the proof of payment.
  • Scan and upload all required documents individually (maximum size: 5MB, accepted formats: Tiff, pdf, jpg, gif).
  • Be sure to save your details before moving to the next section.
  • After completing the application, click “Submit Application” to ensure your submission is received.

UJ Accommodation Applications 2026 

University of Johannesburg provides campus housing and residence facilities to new students upon successful course registration. Applications must be submitted online and not directly at the residences.

  • The closing date for all applications is 31 October 2025. Late applications will not be accepted due to limited space.
  • NSFAS students must have a provisional or firm acceptance before being admitted into a residence.
  • Bursary students must provide proof of their bursary upon registration.
  • To apply for residence, you can either indicate your accommodation preference on the application form or follow these separate steps to apply for UJ campus accommodation:
    • Enter your student number and pin to login.
    • When you are logged in, expand the ‘Student Web Systems’ folder
    • Expand the ‘Application Process’ folder
    • Click on the ‘Application Process’ folder on the left hand side
    • Click on the ‘Add New Residence Application’ button:
    • Complete the highlighted fields and then click on the ‘Proceed With Application’ button:
    • Please note that incomplete applications will not be processed.
