SMU Online Application Date 2027: Everything You Need to Know

We are pleased to announce the opening of the 2027 application cycle at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) in Gauteng, South Africa. Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) has confirmed 1 April 2026 as the official opening date for the 2027 application window. Applicants are encouraged to submit all required application materials before the respective closing dates.

How to Apply to SMU

All applications to Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) must be submitted via the Online Application system. To apply online, you will need:

  • Access to the internet and a valid email address.
  • To complete the application form accurately
  • To specify your first and second choice degrees, if applicable.
  • To pay the R300 non-refundable application fee

SMU 2027 Online Application Steps

Follow these steps to complete your Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) online application:

  1. Visit www.smu.ac.za and click on Online Applications.

  2. If you are a new applicant, select “No”. Select “No” again if you wish to save and complete the application later.

  3. Accept the POPI Act terms and conditions.

  4. Enter your Token Specific to Qualification (provided by SMU).

  5. Click the “Next” button to continue.

  6. Provide the full names of all relatives and those responsible for payment.

  7. Enter your address and contact number.

  8. Select the qualification type you are applying for (e.g., undergraduate or postgraduate).

  9. Input your last school leaving certificate number and matriculation/Grade 12 year.

  10. Complete all required fields, including personal and academic details.

  11. Type the name of your most recent high school.

  12. Choose your qualification, campus, and language of instruction.

  13. Upload all necessary supporting documents, including:

    • Certified copy of your ID or passport

    • Grade 11/12 results

    • Academic record (if you have attended other universities, including SMU)

    • Proof of payment of the non-refundable application fee

  14. Review all information carefully to ensure accuracy.

  15. Confirm your details and submit your application.

  16. Pay the R300 non-refundable application fee and upload proof of payment.

  17. Receive application confirmation and track your application status through your online portal.

NOTE:

You will only be able to submit your SMU online application once you have:

  • Completed the full online application form
  • Uploaded all the necessary scanned supporting documents in .pdf format
  • Sefako Makgatho University Online application fee is R300
  • If you have not clicked APPLY, your form has not been submitted
