NMU Admission Requirements For 2026 Intake

Each program at Nelson Mandela University has specific entry requirements. To be considered for selection into a higher certificate, diploma, and degree program, applicants must meet the following basic criteria:

• Higher Certificate: Applicants must pass the National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the institution, along with any additional university requirements.
• Diploma: Candidates must pass the NSC with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the institution and obtain an achievement rating of 3 (40–49%) or higher in four recognized 20-credit NSC subjects, in addition to meeting other university requirements.
• Bachelor’s Degree: Students must pass the NSC with at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the institution and achieve a minimum rating of 4 (50–59%) in four 20-credit NSC subjects, along with fulfilling any additional university requirements

In addition to the above, you must satisfy the following requirements:

• Ensure that you meet the minimum Applicant Score (AS) and subject requirements before submitting your completed application form

All prospective students are required by the Nelson Mandela University to submit the following documents as part of the application process:

• Certified copy of your identity document (ID) (Compulsory for SA citizens)
• Certified copy of your latest school results (Grade 11 final, or Grade 12 June/September results, or final school leaving results)
• Declaration by your parent/legal guardian/surety form (Downloaded from the university website)
• Certified copy of your parent/legal guardian/surety’s identity document
• Completed disability assessment form (If applicable)
• Full official academic record(s) and certificate(s) of conduct (From previous higher education institution(s), if applicable)
• Copy of your current residential/home or postal address

Follow the guidelines and steps below to apply to the Nelson Mandela University for admission 2026

• Have your own cell number and a valid personal email address.
• Go to www.mandela.ac.za
• Click on the Online Applications
• Complete Section 1 (basic background information) and click “Apply.”
• This does not mean your application is complete or that you are considered for admission yet.
• You will receive an email to verify your email address.
• If you do not receive it, check your spam folder before contacting the university.
• Once your email is verified, you will receive another email with a link to Section 2.
• The email will also include your student number and PIN.
• Click the link, enter your student number and PIN to continue.
• Fill in all red-highlighted fields (compulsory).
• Yellow-highlighted fields are optional.
• Green-highlighted fields require no action.
• Attach all required supporting documents in PDF or JPEG format.
• You can also upload documents on the admissions dashboard after submitting your application.
• Click “Final Submission” at the bottom of the page.

NMU Accommodation Applications 2026 

Nelson Mandela University provides campus housing and residence facilities to new students upon successful course registration. Applications must be submitted online and not directly at the residences.

• Apply online at studenthousing.mandela.ac.za/Apply-for-admission.
• Indicating the need for accommodation does not guarantee placement.
• A selection process is conducted, prioritizing applicants with excellent academic results.
• Admission to residence is only granted after academic admission to a university program and payment of the required fees.
• Residence accommodation is limited, with preference given to applications submitted before 30 September 2025.
