Prospective applicants must submit an application form via the nsfas.org.za application portal between the 28th of September and the 31st of January 2024 to be considered for funding to cover their tuition and other tertiary-related fees for the academic year 2024. You must be qualified and eligible to apply for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme or NSFAS. This post will cover all requirements and the application process.
What NSFAS Bursary Covers
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will absorb the full tuition and registration fees of all approved students. This is the initial payment to be done by NSFAS.
The following stipends and allowances are placed into the student’s NSFAS bank account after receiving approval from NSFAS and are then available for withdrawal or use. Only students whose NSFAS applications have been approved may receive the following allowances.
- Students living in Accommodation in an urban area will have R24 000 allowance per year.
- Students living in Accommodation in a peri-urban area will be paid an allowance of R18 900 per year.
- A student in an Accommodation in a rural area will be given an allowance of R15 750 per year.
- Students travelling 40 km from the institution to the residence will be given a transportation allowance of R7 350 every year
- Living expenses allowance up to R7 000 per year.
- Incidental/personal care allowance up to R2 900 per year.
- Monthly Living expenses allowance up to R15 000 per year.
- Monthly Learning materials/Book allowances capped at R5 200 per year.

NSFAS Application and Ways to Apply for Funding
Below are the step-by-step application rules for how all qualified and eligible students can apply and submit an NSFAS application form for 2024
- Open your browser and type www.nsfas.org.za/apply-online-2024.
- Go to the Create myNSFAS Account tab to get started.
- To access the online forms, click the APPLY option.
- You must update your Nsfas account details before continuing with the rest of the application.
- For the Nsfas 2024 online application, upload all necessary supporting documentation.
- Click the submit button to send your Nsfas online application for the 2024–2025 academic year.
Who is qualified and Eligible to apply for NSFAS 2024 funding
NSFAS funding for the academic year 2024 is only open to the following students from 28 September-31 January 2024 at www.nsfas.org.za
- Only South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
- Applicant with an email account, cell phone and phone number
