The deadline to submit your CPUT application for the January 2027 academic intake is Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Early applications are highly encouraged as spaces are limited and late applications may not be considered.
How to Apply – 6 Simple Steps to Join CPUT
Applying to Cape Peninsula University of Technology is straightforward when you follow the official six-step process. Here’s a detailed guide to help you every step of the way:
Step I: Choose Your Programme
Before applying to CPUT, it’s important to take the time to explore your options and understand the admission requirements. Here are a few key steps to guide you in making an informed decision
- Visit cput.ac.za and explore the wide range of programmes offered across six (6) faculties.
- Read the course details, admission requirements, and career opportunities before making your choice from the current prospectus.
- All prospective students are to apply as many as 3 courses.
- Ensure you satisfy all the entry requirements as admissions is solely based on academic performance.
Step II: Gather Your Documents
Before starting your online application, prepare the following documents in PDF format:
- Certified copy of your ID or passport
- Final Grade 11 or 12 results (if currently in school)
- Academic transcripts (for postgrad or transfer students)
- Proof of payment for the application fee (if applicable)
- Other supporting documents (e.g., proof of residence, affidavit, etc.)
Note: All documents must be clear and certified within the last 3 months.
Step III: Apply Online
All CPUT 2026 applications must be submitted online by following the steps below:
- Go to the official website at cput.ac.za.
- Navigate to the “Online Applications”
- Input your South African ID number or passport number if applicable.
- Specify whether you are a first-time applicant.
- Choose your citizenship category and confirm your selection.
- Tick the checkbox to agree to the POPI Act terms in order to continue.
- Fill out your personal information as required.
- Enter a valid email address and set up a strong password.
- Check your email inbox to verify and activate your account.
- Provide the necessary Next of Kin contact details.
- Supply information about your academic history.
- Select a maximum of three preferred programmes, making sure you qualify for each.
- Upload all necessary documents in scanned format.
- Carefully review all entered information before submitting your application.
- Be sure to note down your application/reference number for later use.
- Sign out from the portal once your application is complete.
- You are done with your applications

Step IV: Pay the Application Fee
If you are applying manually, ensure that the application fee of R150 is paid. This fee is non-refundable. Your application will not be processed until proof of payment is received. (Applies to manual applicants only.)
Step V: Track Your Application
After submitting your application, monitor your application status using the CPUT application tracking tool at www.cput.ac.za/study/track
Simply log in with your student number or ID/passport number to check updates or any missing documents.
Step VI: Apply for Accommodation
If you plan to stay in one of CPUT’s student residences, you must submit a separate application for accommodation. This can be done via the Student Housing portal once you’ve completed your academic application.
- Residence spaces are limited, so apply as early as possible.
- Priority is often given to first-year and financially needy students.
- Residence options include both on-campus and off-campus housing.
