How to prepare to apply
Gather All Required Documents
Prepare all necessary documents before starting your application to avoid delays.
These may include:
- Academic transcripts
- Certified ID or passport
- Grade 12 results or National Senior Certificate
- Standardized test scores (if required for your programme)
- Letters of recommendation (if applicable)
- Proof of English language proficiency (for international applicants, if required)
Important Requirements:
- All documents must be certified
- Certification must be no older than three months
- Files must be scanned clearly and uploaded as separate PDF attachments
Method of Application
All UFH applications and submissions are completed online only. Applicants must use the official online portal to apply, there is no alternative application method.
You will be required to:
- Complete the online application form
- Upload digital copies of all supporting documents
- Pay the application fee online
What You Need Before Applying
Before starting your application, ensure you have the following:
- A stable internet connection and a smart device (laptop, tablet, or smartphone)
- A valid email address (for registration and communication)
- A scanner or scanning app to digitise your documents clearly before uploading
Check the entry requirements
To qualify for UFH undergraduate programmes, applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with the required subject combinations and achievement levels shown below:
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language): Level 4 (50–59%) or higher
- Four subjects: Level 4 (50–59%) or higher
- One additional subject: Level 2 (30–39%) or higher
- Life Orientation: Level 4 (50–59%) or higher
- Minimum Admission Point Score (APS): 26 points or higher
Monitor Application Deadline
You do not need to lose track of the 2027 application closing date. You have until 31 October 2026 to complete your online application, upload all required documents, and pay the non-refundable application fee.
Please note that applications will close on this date, and no late submissions will be accepted. Make sure everything is completed before the deadline to secure your place.

Visit the UFH Online Application Portal to create your account, fill in your details, and upload your files before October 31, 2026.
Cost of Applications
The University of Fort Hare encourages all applicants to submit their applications online at a cost of R120.
A non-refundable application fee of R120 is required and must be paid either:
- Online via PayGate during the application process, or
- Into the approved Standard Bank account, if applicable
If payment is made via bank deposit, applicants must upload the proof of payment (receipt) as part of the application process.

Documents Required to complete the applications
One (1) Certified Copy of each of the following documents must be attached:
Undergraduate
- A certified copy of your Grade 12 examination results
- Certified ID
- Provide your Grade 11 if you are yet to complete
- A valid Passport
- Medical Report
- Proof of proficiency CERTIFICATE
- Study Visa
- You can produce your birth certificate in place of your ID
- Certified copy of your marriage certificate
- Proof of payment of the compulsory and non-refundable application fee
Postgraduate
- Identity Document
- Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
- Original Proof of payment of the application fee
- Matric Certificate
- SAQA clearance certificate (foreign student)
- Academic Record, including proof that the Certificate of Conduct has been requested from the previous University / University of Technology / Technikon if you had registered at another institution

How to Apply online to the University of Fort Hare
Comply with the following steps to apply for your course at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Returning Students
- Go to our website ufh.ac.za and click Online Services at the very bottom of the page.
- Then type your Student Number and PIN that you created (If you forgot your pin, click on Forgot Pin and a new pin will be generated).
- Step 2 above will direct you to Student iEnabler where you should click on Returning Student Application.
- Click on POPI Act and accept it.
- Click Returning Student Application
- On the right side of the screen, you will see sub-headings starting with Biographical Information. As you scroll down the screen, at the bottom you will see a sub-heading School Leaving subjects
- Click Show, then click View/Update subjects
- Then update your current subjects
- At the bottom, it will ask you if you are updating your subjects, reply YES then SAVE.
- Then upload using the instructions below.
- That is Click Returning Student Application
- On the right side of the screen, you will see sub-headings starting with Biographical Information. As you scroll down the screen, at the bottom you will see a sub-heading Upload Documents
- Click Show, then click Upload Documents
Fresh Applicants
- visit the official website at https://ufh.ac.za/
Academic applications
- As a new applicant, indicate your state by selecting NO to the questions in the drop box.
- Provide your Bio-data with precision and accuracy. These include your contact details, email address, residential address, and others.
- If you don’t tick the I Accept Box, you can’t move on with the application process. We strongly advise you to read those terms carefully before agreeing to them.
Verifications
- You will be sent an email containing your Student Number and a temporary pin. You can choose to change the pin or maintain it.
- Login now with your student number and pin.
Programme Selection
- After reviewing the individual course prerequisites, select your course.
- Download the university prospectus and consult the course requirements before applying.
- These criteria will be used to make the decision. Please rethink your choice if it does not satisfy the requirements.
Payments of the application fee
- The system will prompt you to pay the application fee either offline and upload the receipt or online using your credit cards.
Documentations
- Continue to upload the necessary documents. These papers must be scanned individually and uploaded. The scanned files shouldn’t be larger than 5MB or 572KB.
- The file formats must be in tiff, pdf, jpg, or gif.
- Remember to save every page before you proceed to the next page.
- You will lose your data if you fail to save it before you continue
Submissions
- Please ensure that you press the Submit Application button once you have completed your application to ensure that they receive it.
