There’s only one application form for all undergraduate applicants, making the process simple. Please note that this information is for undergraduate applicants only.
This article provides information about how to complete the UFS online application form and about the university admission process. Before filling out the online application form, please take careful note of the minimum admission requirements for the faculty or program that you are interested in. These are found in the faculty handbooks. Some programs have additional selection requirements – please check these before you apply.
University of the Free State (UFS) Admissions Open for 2025-2026
The University of the Free State (UFS) is pleased to announce that applications for undergraduate studies for the 2025 academic year will be open from April 1, 2024. This applies to both new and returning applicants.
We encourage all prospective students to submit their applications during this designated period to avoid late application penalties.
If you are currently registered for undergraduate studies at UFS but wish to transfer to a different program, you should apply for a change of program through the university’s Change of Program system.

There is no application fee to apply to UFS.

How to Apply to University of the Free State (UFS) For 2025-2026
To submit an application form, prospective applicants must follow the steps outlined below. A step cannot be omitted for any reason. You must follow all of the instructions listed below:
Application Acknowledgement
- After receiving your application, you may be assigned a pupil range and your utility may be stated. when you have no longer submitted all the required files, you will be contacted and requested to accomplish that before your application can be processed.
Application Review
- The University of Free State will review your application. If your evaluation is positive, you will be given a conditional offer to study. If you indicated that you require on-campus housing in your application, you will also receive correspondence from Housing and Residence Affairs.
Application Evaluation
- When the final Grade 12 results are released in January 2025, all applications will be re-evaluated; if your evaluation is positive, you will receive a final offer. It is important to remember that meeting the minimum admission requirements for your desired program does not guarantee admission.
Finalize Application
- You must successfully complete the online acceptance process for the offer within the time frame specified. If you do not complete the offer acceptance process by the deadline, the university will retract the offer and you will be dropped from the program. Please keep in mind that there are only a few positions available.
