NSFAS: How to re-register 2024-2025

You must register/re-register or log into a myNSFAS account on www.nsfas.org.za in order to access your funding progress through that account when the portal launches on September 28, 2024. The NSFAS is open to all South African students from September 28 through January 31, 2024. Visit the official website to register or to submit an application for NSFAS funding for the 2024–25 academic year.

Who must re-register for NSFAS?

You will need to re-register your account if:

  • You use Facebook or Google to sign into your myNSFAS account
  • When trying to sign in the system prompts you to re-register
  • You are studying at any of the NSFAS Wallet TVET colleges

NSFAS Qualification and Eligibility Criteria

Academic Eligibility Criteria

Students who receive financial aid from NSFAS must meet set academic achievements in order to continue to be eligible for financial aid.

The academic eligibility criteria are applied as follows to University students:

  • For all continuing University students, the criteria of 75% course pass rate annually, applies.

The criteria are applied as follows to students in TVET Colleges:

  • A bursary may only be awarded to students progressing to the next NC (V) level if they passed at least 5 subjects in the previous NC (V) level. In cases where the criteria for progression to the next level is stricter as per the progression policy of the College, then the College progression policy will apply.
  • A bursary may only be awarded to students progressing to the next Report 191 level if they passed a minimum of 3 subjects in the previous N-Level. However, in cases where the criteria for progression to the next level is stricter as per the progression policy of the College, then the College progression policy will apply

Financial Eligibility Criteria

Financial eligibility criteria are used to assess prospective students applying for funding for the first time, continuing, and returning students.

Household Income

Household income is applicable to non-SASSA recipients only and is determined as follows:

Social Grants Recipients (SASSA)

  • Any student who is a South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) recipient, as validated by NSFAS, automatically meets the financial eligibility criteria, and will be eligible for a bursary award if they are registered at an institution and are academically eligible.

Non-Social Grants Recipients (NON-SASSA):

  • The applicant is financially eligible if the household income is R350,000 or less.
  • Applicants living with a disability: The applicant is financially eligible if the household income is R600,000 or less.

What do you need to apply for NSFAS funding?

A prospective student must submit certified copies of the following documents:

  • Certified copy of your ID or smart card, not older than 3 months.
  • A signed and completed consent form.
  • Certified copy of your ID, not older than 3 months.
  • A signed and completed consent form.
  • Certified ID copies of parent/s, guardian, and spouse not older than 3 months.
  • Proof of income of parent, guardian or spouse (payslip or appointment letter)
  • Proof of income (payslip or appointment letter)
  • 3yrs IRP5.
  • Completed and signed Annexure A.
  • Completed and signed Declaration Form.
  • Retrenchment letter /UIF documentation
  • Death certificate/s
  • Divorce decree

How to Re-register For NSFAS

The steps to re-register are as follows:

  • Go to www.nsfas.org.za
  • Click myNSFAS tab
  • Click Register
  • Tick the box to allow NSFAS to verify your details
  • Then capture the ID number as it stated on your ID document
  • Type in your full name and surname as per your ID document
  • Type in your current email address
  • Confirm your email address
  • Type in your cell phone number
  • Create a password
  • Confirm password
  • Upload ID copy
  • Click Register
  • OTP will be sent to the email and cell number provided (this OTP expires after 24 hours)
  • Type in the OTP and click submit
  • You have now completed your re-registration
